Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a Harley-Davidson to participate?

No. Virginia's 2A Freedom Ride is open to all riders and all brands. Whether you ride a Harley-Davidson, Indian, Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki, BMW, Victory, Suzuki, Ducati, Can-Am Spyder, Slingshot, trike, touring bike, cruiser, or other street-legal vehicle, you are welcome to join us. Our goal is to bring together riders from across the Commonwealth in celebration of freedom, fellowship, and responsible firearm ownership.

Do I have to bring a rifle?

No. Bringing a rifle is completely optional. Riders are welcome to participate regardless of whether they choose to bring a rifle.

If I bring a rifle, what are the requirements?

Safety is our highest priority. All rifles brought to the event must remain unloaded and securely transported. Chamber/barrel flags are required. No magazines may be inserted, and firearms may not be handled during the ride except when required by law or in emergencies. Participants are expected to comply with all federal, state, and local laws.

Do I have to register?

Registration is strongly encouraged and helps organizers plan for safety, route coordination, and rider communications. All riders and passengers are required to complete the appropriate waiver and release forms.

Can I bring a passenger?

Yes. Passengers are welcome and encouraged to join the ride. Each passenger must complete and sign a separate Passenger Waiver and Release of Liability prior to participating. Riders are responsible for ensuring that their passengers have completed the required paperwork.

Can clubs and riding groups participate?

Absolutely. Motorcycle clubs, riding associations, independent riders, and groups are welcome. We ask that all participants respect fellow riders and follow the directions of Road Captains and event staff to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.

Will there be fuel stops?

Yes. Multiple planned fuel stops are incorporated into the route, along with a designated photo opportunity stop. Exact locations and route information will be available on the Route page and provided during the Riders Meeting.

Is this a race?

No. Virginia's 2A Freedom Ride is a group ride. Riders are expected to maintain safe spacing, obey traffic laws, ride within their abilities, and follow Road Captain instructions.

Will there be Road Captains?

Yes. Experienced Road Captains and support riders will help maintain formation, coordinate fuel stops, and promote a safe riding environment throughout the event.

How do I become a Road Captain?

Interested riders may complete the Road Captain Application available on the website. Submission of an application does not guarantee selection. All Road Captain applicants must also complete the standard rider registration and agree to the event waiver and safety rules.

What hand signals will be used?

Standard motorcycle hand signals will be utilized throughout the ride. These signals will be reviewed during the Riders Meeting before departure to ensure all participants are familiar with formation and safety procedures.

What should I bring?

Participants should bring: • Valid driver's license • Proof of insurance • Appropriate riding gear • Full tank of gas • Water • Sunglasses and sunscreen • Emergency contact information • Positive attitude and respect for fellow riders

Will the ride happen if it rains?

Light rain will not automatically cancel the ride. Event organizers will monitor weather conditions and may adjust departure times, modify the route, or cancel the event if severe weather creates unsafe conditions.
